In child development there are stages that children go through in order to develop as a person. When you are forced to skip those steps and become an adult because of something tragic, it leaves you stunted in a way. If you are not allowed to go through the stages of development you can get stuck in one of those stages even though it appears that you have grown up fast. In reality you haven't.
