last year, my theatre group performed The Kentucky Cycle: Fire in the Hole, by Robert Schenkkan. The Kentucky Cycle is actually a series of nine plays, and TKC is right about in the middle, but it's fairly amazing. This year we're doing The Diviners by Jim Leonard Jr., which is an absolutely heartbreaking play, and another one by the same author, And They Dance Real Slow in Jackson, is great too.

But my all-time favorite play that I've ever seen adapted into a one-act format is A View From The Bridge by Arthur Miller.

i saw a play back in october at our regional one-act competition that took second.. it was neither funny nor moving.. but extrememly creepy.. it left the audience cringing in their seats and gave everyone nightmares for a LONG time.

Its called "Bad Seed" i dont have a link, but the play was cast well and was perfectly creepy... even though they shouldn't have one because they were soo many HUGE errors that the judges overlooked because they were afraid.. such as teh fact that the limping character changed limps every time he was on stage.. it went from left leg, to right leg back to left.. and they blocked each other and turned their backs to teh audience.. BIG NO-NO'S!

but its about this woman and her daughter. the women has always felt that she was adopted and that something bad was in her.. and then her daughter is like.. spawn of satan..exactly waht it says "bad seed".. she's killed 3 or 4 people adn she's 10!!! she knocked an old lady down the stairs becase she told her that when she died she was leaving her a lamp.. and she killed her for it! then they moved and she killed a little boy because he won the spelling bee medal and then when the trash-collector with a limp finds out about it.. she sets him on fire!!! and finally her mother realizes that her daughter is a monster and that she can't go on so she over-doses her daughter and then goes off stage and shoots herself.. then theres one last scene.. but i'll leave it open for you interested people!

Well, I wouldn't say it was funny but last year we did Faustus and it was awesome.Sadly,the first judge we had knocked us out of the contest.Even when other judges who saw it said we should have gone on and so did the other schools.Everybody who saw it though loved it and it'll send chills down people's spines...and scare the heck out of some.
Oh and it's not an easy play to do though.Especially if you have a pretty inexperienced cast.

Take a look at _The Bells of Nagasaki_ by Ernest Ferlita

The play traces the survivors of the bombing of Nagasaki and one man's struggle to help them find hope again. It's based on actual events and is incredibly moving.

My favorite one-act play that I've ever been involved with must be "F.M." by Romulus Linney. It is both hilarious and surprisingly touching. You can find this play in the book "Laughing Stock," published by Dramatists Play Service.

for the reason which you're diseased. Dis-eased with the/ your (self). The "diva" on your call shows how. It shows you care lots greater how others pereceive your sexuality as oppose the your character. this manner of dis-ease with the self frequently brings DRAMA (from different diseased people aka WANNABE DIVAS).

My one act play involves a grown woman, the middle child of a dysfunctional family, talking to her mother who has just died; she is sitting on a chair, facing an empty chair in which her mother is sitting (in her mind) ... and she is asking all the hard questions;

why did you hate me and love my sister and brother; why did you abandon me to relatives after our father died? why did you constantly refer to my father as my sister's father in my company? Why did you treat me like a slave and never made my sister or brother lift a finger ....

it is a rhetorical play but gets to the heart of the pain this grown woman has suffered with her entire life, rather than upset her mother by forcing her mother to confront these issues when she was alive.

it is powerful ... and i am having problems staging the effect of the mother being evasive, thru the diaglogue of the daughter ...

r u interested in helping me with this project?
if so see me at c12578@yahoo.com
