There are two kinds of abortion: the one that's done w/ medication and you bleed out, or the vacuum suction, which is done by surgery.

They both involve risk. At least 11 women have died so far from chemical abortions, and hundreds of women have died from legal surgical abortions since 1973. For more information, see:

Well, abortion is safer than full term pregnancy and labour. Statistically speaking, labour is at least 10 times more likely to kill you than not. Then of course there's the risk of post partum depression and other mental illnesses that accompany pregnancy, so don't let anyone tell you not to take that risk. You're pregnant and therefore in a risky place no matter what you do.

Now, I think you should speak with your doctor about which procedure is better. I chose the surgical, really I was too pregnant for the pill, but would have gone with the surgery anyways. I was put to sleep pregnant and woke up not pregnant. It wasn't any more painful than a monthly period and I don't regret it one bit. Of course, I knew it was the right choice for me and would have done anything to have it done including doing it myself, but thankfully that didn't happen as that's dangerous. You're given a strong dose of antibiotics after the procedure and some painkillers although like I said I didn't need the painkillers. Then you're asked not to have sex or insert anything into your vagina for about 2 weeks and then come back for a check up. I bled for less than a week.

The medical version sort of scares me. I would have done it if there was no other option, but it's longer more drawn out and probably painful. I know in America they do abortion and being put asleep is only optional. The anesthetic is actually more dangerous than the procedure, but I can't imagine that abortion is something that you'd want to be awake for. Talk with your doctor. Good luck!

I'd say go with the surgery...I've heard that the medication can cause hemmoraging, as well, which would be nasty.

And, I'd agree with what the woman further up said - don't let these anti-choice, pro-overpopulation and pro-unwanted children nitwits get to you...They're all for not 'murdering a baby!! (insert dramatic gasp here)', but I don't see them going out and adopting all these untold thousands of unwanted children throughout the US. (Obviously, there are a few exceptions to this rule, but certainly not many)

Think of THAT if you waver from the consideration of abortion. You carry this child to term, you're going to be miserable for most of the next 9 months, if you have a very active job it's going to impede on that, not to mention your social and recreational activities, or any sort of relationship you may be in or want to be in during the next nine months, having to watch your intake of alcohol and cigarettes (If you drink or smoke), as well as your intake of recreational drugs (If you partake of such things)....

And then there's the impact on the child. The years he'll likely spend in an adoption center, quite possibly his entire life until he turns 18, at which point he gets turned out and expected to support and sustain himself, without parents to fall back on in a troublesomesituation, no parents to support him throughout life, unless he becomes adopted, and all the other sorts of psychological issues that could result from being given up for adoption.

That aside, and this part I direct at the anti-abortion folks(Mainly the religious ones, I cannot combat any sort of atheistic argument against abortion, as that simply boils down to a difference of opinion as the crux of the argument): Every person has their own soul, right? Do you really think God, being a kind and loving and compassionate and understanding God...Do you really think He's going to say, "Well, damn, Billy...You got aborted before you even got through the first trimester! Alright. No life for you, looks like. Toodles."? Or do you think this kind, compassionate, loving, and understanding God would say, "Don't worry, Billy...We're gonna get you on the next one."

And, not to prod or sound spiteful, but next time, I'd suggest using a condom or some other form of contraceptive.

Just have the baby and put it up for adoption if you dont want it...how could you be so ignorant when there are millions of people out there that would die for the oppertunity to be parents but for some reason they just cant have children. You got yourself into this now its not your choice anymore about the baby..you made your choices when you had sex. Why dont you try doing some reading and I dont mean just on the internet..open your BIBLE and see what God says about abortion..here ill give you a head start..Exodus 21:22-25, Psalm 139:13-16, Jeremiah 1:5. Change your mind...Taking a life is murder no matter what way you look at it.

more than 8 women have died in the past couple of years from toxic shock syndrome after taking the abortion pill. FDA has put out warnings about it, and is doing an investigation on the subject.

I don't think nearly as women die from surgical abortion nowadays. So the surgery is probably safer.

Normally I am fully pro-choice, but since my husband and I have been trying to adopt a baby, we've come to realize that it is a very long and tedious process- especially if you are looking to adopt a caucasion baby. Understand though, I'm definately not taking the pro-life "Godly" position, since I really don't believe in any organized religion. Please just consider it for those of us searching for a child.

Ultimately the choice is yours, but I just want to share a story with you about my gf. I dont know the reason you want an abortion, and it doesnt really matter. My girlfriend had an abortion when she was 19, her bf was only 16, he and her dad didnt want her to have the baby. So she decided that she should have an abortion against what she always had said, it was really hard in the beginning for her, but as time went on it hurt less, and she thought about it less. 3 years later she got pregnant again, and throughout her whole pregnancy she thought about the baby she had terminated. The bf that wanted her to have the abortion was no longer around, and he was having a baby with his new gf, it caused her sooo much pain to think about what their baby would have been like, or who she/he would have looked like. I dont have an oppinion on your abbortion, but I would like you to think of this story, and about your life in 5 years and where you will be. Then decide what is right for you. Dont let anyone on this site make you feel guilty about what you want. It is your choice, and you are the one who has to live with it. good luck, I hope the choice you make makes you happy.

Talk to your doctor to see which method is best for you. Sometimes the surgery can be a little worse than the meds.

The surgery, while more invasive, is the safest method overall.

Best of luck to you, and don't let these pro-slavery, anti-choice nitwits get to you!
