the asics gel cardio and gel assist trainers are specifically designed for the clinical and biomechanical specifics of active walkers who happen to be diabetic. as a consequence of type 1 diabetes, blood supply to the bodies peripheries (hand and feet) are significantly reduced, so soft tissue injuries and recovery from exercise takes longer.

diabetics are at greater risk of foot injuries and more prone to foot infections than non diabetics for this reason asics has created these two specific shoes to allow people with diabetes to exercise more while reducing the risk of foot injuries.

got some myself today and my first impression is that they're worth every penny!

the ones with silver on don't look all that attractive as the silver bit is shiny, but the black and grey ones (gel cardio) are really comfy, really good to walk in, don't tire your feet and 'bounce' along! also, they have a special lining that removes foot odour which has to be a bonus!

would recommend them even though they seem expensive.

Havent actually heard of this myself - But a bit like diabetic chocolate ite probably best to stick real thing and build it in than "compromise" - mind you if theyre comparable costs and have the technology then why not!

As a runner i'd say asiccs are real good shoes (ive had a few and got one pair on the go now). My wife is diabetic so do have a personal interest. She just wears normal cross trainers for most things tho'

let us know how you get on if you go for them.
