No, they will not, they will once again finish second behind the mighty New York Yankees--again!!
I keep hearing how great their starting pitching will be, but Schilling finished the year by getting hammered in September and had many more hits than innings pitched. Also no one knows how Papelbon's shoulder will hold up over a whole season of starting, Wakefield had a bad season and was injured during the second half, Beckett was batting practice against the Yankees last year, and Matsuzaka has never pitched in the majors before. I think there is a lot of hype. I'll take the Yankees solid staff, where you have three guys who are locks to win 15-17 games, (Wang, Pettitte, Mussina), and the midsummer promotion of Phil Hughes who will be a pain in the Red Sox' butt for years to come. Oh, the Yanks have Rivera and a great, young, hard-throwing bullpen in front of him (Proctor, Bruney, and eventually, Humberto Sanchez) Who's going to close for Boston?
Hey Red Sox fans, if Varitek starts another fight with A-Rod this year, will he be man enough to take his mask off? Also, "Red Sox Nation" makes a big deal about the A-Rod "slap", but why nothing about Orlando Cabrera coming into second throwing elbows in '04?

they will make atleast the wild card but will not go to the world series. Schilling is on the decline, Beckett is Mr. Homerun, and who knows how Matsuzaka will make the transition to the MLB. The also have no closer, offense is still only Manny and Ortiz, I dont care what anyone thinks about Drew, Willy Mo should be starting over him. Defense they will still be good but the leaders of the east is still the Yankees. They have the best offense in the league and Doug M. should get A-rod on track.

That is always up in the air.
You should know as well as I that The Yankees always find a way win (DAMN YANKEES!).
They would have to win the East Division to male the playoffs
(as the wild card will once again from the Central Division).
Even if they won the East, they would have to get past either Minnesota or Detroit---and I do not see that happening.

well they have a chance i think if they were able to work out a trade with colorado for todd helton that would have added a powerful bat to their lineup that would have helped them add up agianst the yankees...but since they didnt i think that in order for them to win the world series their going to have to go through the yankees of course and the twins and a couple of "sleepers" like..bluejays and whitesox
