Why are people so one sided? What really bugs me is that everyone probably doesn't agree with 100 % what one party is "supposed" to stand for. I think if they thought they did, it is only because media has choosen for them. It seems that politicians are often more concerned with making the other party look bad, then what America and the world actually needs done. Its not fair to say one party is all right and the other is wrong. So why aren't more people independent voters?

BECAUSE USUALLY IF YOU VOTE FOR A INDEPENDENT IT IS MOST LIKELY A WASTED VOTE. DON'T GET ME WRONG THERE HAVE BEEN INDEPENDENTS THAT I WOULD HAVE VOTED FOR BUT IT WOULDN'T HAVE MATTERED THEY STILL WOULD HAVE LOST BASICALLY IT'S A VOTE AGAINST SOMEONE RATHER THAN A VOTE FOR SOMEONE. IT SUCKS I KNOW BUT ARE WE TO DO?

There are many who register independant but vote one way, there are many who register to a party but vote their own way.

the most outspoken attention whores are the extreme right and extreme left, and they are very party specific. Usually a sign that they are too dumb to think for themselves, so they threw in hook line and sinker with a party to do the thinking for them.

Few vote against parties, because they want a chance of being on the winning team. until we break this mentality, the two-party system will remain in power.

Republicans tend to all vote alike and Democrats all tend to vote alike. They all agree to a "Party Platform" and all work to see that their parties platform becomes legal policy. There are some who disagree with their party and vote differently on SOME issues, but agree with the others on MOST issues.

I'm a Libertarian for some of the reasons you mention in your question.

A very good point. Some say because it's easier to let others make the decision for them. Others say because they are brainwashed. And still others say it's because the media is in cahoots with the Democrats and Republicans to keep the power in their hands, and disallow true freedom of choice at the polls.
