Start taking action and develope a safety plan. Change your routine. Get the kids inside. Check all your windows and locks. Payattnetion to the news and protect yourself. If you are really scared go out of town for a bit...maybe stay with a friend or Mom. The best thing to do is just dont be silly, stay alert and dont set yourself up to become a victim. Always dial 911 in an emergency.

If he has been locked up and won't be getting out on bail/bond, you are fairly safe now. More than likely, the police will be at his house combing every inch of it for quite some time. I don't think many serial killers kill in their own neighborhood, though. What you can do now is check your windows to make sure they are secure, check your doors and locks, install deadbolts if you don't already have them, set up a neighborhood watch, and, consider an alarm system. I purchased a security camera (very easy to install) and it didn't cost all that much, depending on how many you buy and the type you buy. But, the money is well spent when you consider your safety, and that of your families. Speak with your local law enforcement and get ideas from them. Consider taking self defense classes. If you have children, warn them (don't scare them) of the dangers. Maybe the police have an "Officer Friendly" that speaks with children. You could see if they have one in your city/town that would speak with the kids in the neighborhood. Always be alert when entering and leaving your home, and try to vary the times. Also, you could invest in a timer that would turn your lights on and off at various times. You could leave a tv or radio on. I would also get assurance that this person will not be released. Good luck.

Never 'go out' alone, and going out in 'larger groups' is even better, if you are the same 'sex and age group' of the serial killer's victims. BE AWARE at all times when you are out. If this is a serial killer who 'breaks in' and kills the person in her/his own home, then make DOUBLY SURE that all your windows and doors 'lock well' and even, if necessary, make sure the windows are covered with 'iron bars' ... but remember if the man comes in the door, and all your windows have iron bars, you may have no 'avenue of escape' so be sure that the 'iron bars' are on hinges and can be easily and quietly 'released' from the inside.

Talk with law enforcement about the situation. Especially if you have children, I would consider moving.
