First, the name is ABRAHAM Lincoln, second your kidding right? You really did NOT know it was John Wilkes Booth!!!! Or do you buy into the fantasy that he got away and some other person was shot by Sgt. Boston Corbet at the Garrett Farm near Bowling Green, VA?

The name of the play that night was "Our American Cousin" starring Laura Keene. The couple accompanying the Lincoln's that night were Major Henry Rathbone and his fiance Clara Harris.

Originally General Grant and his wife Julia were to attend the theatre, but Mrs. Grant could not stand Mary Todd Lincoln and they told the President they were going home to visit their children in Burlington, New Jersey. Don't they teach history anymore?

John Wilkes Booth was a pro-Confederate actor who was performing in the show that Lincoln and his wife were watching. Booth ran off the stage, opened the door to Lincoln's private booth and shot him at point blank range in the head with a .44 caliber Deringer.
