I want to quit smoking, but i'm not sure of which methods really work. I have heard of the laser surgery but want to see if i can do it differently than that. My biggest fear about quitting is gaining weight because i finally got down to the weight where i want to be at. If it were at all possible for me i would go for a run or exercise when i had the urge to smoke, but with 2 little boys at home it makes this really really hard to do. Can someone please offer me any suggestions??

I have never personally smoked, but I have a couple of friends who underwent hypnosis and were basically able to quit cold turkey and are now nonsmokers. I would be skeptical if I hadn't seen it work in people I know.

I don't know how much a session would cost but I guarantee it would be less than lasers or months of nicotine gum & patches, and definitely cheaper than buying cigarettes for the rest of your life.

Kara,
I quit smoking almost 6 years ago, I'm not going to lie to you, it's not easy! And yes, you will gain some weight but if you eat right & exercise you'll be fine. And when you get the urge to smoke, get you a stick or two of gum, baby carrots or sugar snap peas.
The most I ever smoked was half a pack/if even that a day & towards the end, a pack would last me a month & a half (no joke) & what got me to quit all together was when my then 7 year old son came home from school & told me that his teacher knew someone that had died from lung cancer that had smoked. I had a lit cigarette in my mouth at the time, I put it out & haven't touched the nasty things since then. I would much rather have a little weight on me from being healthy than having to worry about getting COPD/emphasyma or lung cancer & dying from it. If you're wanting to quit, make sure you tell your friends & family so they can support you on your decision.
take care & good luck!

You must want to truly quit. It is controlled by your mind. There is a lot of information available. most hospitals have programs that really work well. Always remember that a craving for a cigarette only lasts a minute or two. The best way to quit is to stop cold turkey. I found that celery and carrot sticks helped me with the urge to smoke. (I don't know if it was the moisture or what but it really helped) Don't wait till it's to late like I did though. I had a heart attack at age 42 due to 28 years of smoking. When i stopped I was at almost 3 packs aday. I spent a week in the hospital and I completely lost the desire to smoke. I knew I was having a heart attack but I put the last smoke I would ever have, out at the door to the E.R. It's been 6 years and I have not had the desire to start again.

I have not heard of Laser surgey to help you quit smoking yet!!??

Quitting smoking takes a STRONG WILL since it is mostly in the mind of the person. If you can block the THOUGHT of wanting to smoke out gradually, you can do it. You can do this by distracting yourself and keeping busy and replacing the habit with some other habits. There also natural remedies on the market to help you with the CRAVING and replace the Nicotine Urge.

Unfortunatley, when you stop smoking, you will get your normal taste buds and your appetite back plus the fact that you want to keep your mouth/hands busy...so the eating increasess if you do not control it or excersize..... but what is gaining a few pounds compared to being free from smoking!!???

If you -really- want to quit, you don't need surgery. I mean, how does that even work? They laser out the part of your brain that makes you addicted? Sounds totally not-safe, man. Just keep cutting down on what you're smoking day-to-day and stick to your guns. Take one cigarrette a day out of your smoking ritual for a week. Then cut back by another for the next week and so on and so forth. You have to want it down to your soul. REALLY want it. If you don't, nobody can help you. It's all on you. You can lead a horse to water...

My mother stopped smoking after an hypnosis session in Majorca, Spain. I really don't know how, but the truth is it worked.

She gained 5 kilograms of weight after that, but it's saving her life: her lung disease is not progressing despite she's already lost some air capacity after 20 years of smoking.

You have to want to quit!! If you are looking for help, you don't want to take responsibility- thus if you start again you don't have to blame yourself. Think of it like this- Are you a master of the cigs, or a slave to them? If you are a slave, you won't quit- until they cause damage or kill you - if you are a master, take control and show the cigs who is boss- it IS THAT SIMPLE- be around to see youor kids blossom!
