We were doubly blessed

And I can barely remember a thing about it, unfortunately, due to having killed off most of my brain cells with cider.

No, I don't think so. There were more wars (though not as prolific), witches and jews were persecuted, women were subservient to men, life expectancy was terrible due to everyone "fighting for their honour" and worst of all; no indoor plumbing!!
