From my experience working in restaurants, I would have to say yes. A couple bucks or more is sufficient, depending on the size of the order. For example, if you leave with 10 bags, tip more than 2 dollars.

Often times it's what happens behind the scenes that deserves a tip. Usually, a carryout person rings or sends in your order just like a waiter/waitress. And many times a carryout person is solely responsible for boxing or packaging all of your food--not to mention, supplying your condiments, sauces, napkins, silverware, etc.

Check your order for accuracy. If it's not right, don't tip. If he/she does a great job, tip a little extra.

i think of lots of folk do no longer understand the fairly artwork that is going right into a takeout order. in my view, i visit frequently tip 20% for super provider at my table, yet only approximately 10% for takeout. that's quite some artwork to coach the foodstuff and positioned the order together, yet a server does that too (or a runner, yet everyone seems to be probable splitting counsel then) and waits on me for the different desires for an hour. Takeout does not deserve a similar length tip in my opinion, yet I do tip them.

Tips from takeout are not expected, but any employee who makes money from tips will accept and appreciate them. In other words, nobody is going to dislike you for not tipping during takeout, it's pretty much the restaurant's equivalent of a drive-thru window. But, you will make some friends if you tip them, especially if you do it on a regular basis.

That depends. A tip is generally given to indicate appreciation for good service. Usually a tip is given to an individual (waiter, waitress, etc.) and not to a group. As such the logic dictates not to tip for take out at a sit down restaurant. Not to mention, wait staff have to declare (for taxes) their tips. The person behind the counter for take-out might also be paid more than the wait staff since they generally do not get tips.

Es an ex-waiteress, I must inform you that it's an absolute must.

The servers go through alot more trouble than you see, putting the food in to go boxes and bags, finding enough plastic silverware, etc...

plus, if customers that are in the restaurant see them go in the kitchen and not come out for awhile, they assume they're just back there slacking off, and often tip less because of it.

Also, servers remember faces of non-tippers, and when you go into the restaurant next, you're not going to get good service, because they would rather expend their energy on someone they know will tip them well.

And, if you don't, you can assume the servers are talking crap and making fun of you the second you leave. Those tight smiles hide thoughts of "I hope you spill that scalding coffee in your lap you asshole."

I would say no. A tip is for service such as making sure your glass is full, or bringing additional coffee, cream, or extra napkins. I think when you order takeout, the only person doing the work is the chef or person taking your order. Usually these people don't get tipped, just servers or deliverers.

You are not expected to tip for takeouts, but it's nice and if you feel generous then tip the waiter or waitress for carrying the bags to you.

NO,I don't think the need is there. The point in tipping is to tip a person who has waited on you and has given a good dining experience, waitress's and waiters make a make a much lower wage. They expect you to tip when you dine in and have been served with a form of excellence, but if you're only pick up everyone involved their is making a competitive wage not personally waiting on you but cooking your order with no personal service given, there for it is not expected of you to tip. It is always a good gesture to give a tip just because you ordered from the establishment and someone handed you your order and took care of the bill with you.

I worked at Applebee's and we take turns doing the Curbside Take Out. The honest answer to this is NO. We make Min. Wage when we work this job. Then when we wait tables we make the usual $2.15 a hr plus our tips (however we had to pay out to the busser and the bartender). When we do Curb Side and get tipped we have to split it with the others who are working with me. They said that way it is fair for the other who are working with me. I am ok with that.

Yes, someone is doing a service for you. you are tipping for the service, even if you aren't sitting down. You don't have to leave as large a tip, but it is still the correct thing to do, and the nice thing to do. These people do not make much money and they are saving you time and energy, and you don't have to do whatever it is yourself.
