Take it easy.... don't hurt yourself. Only do what you know your capable of and gradually work yourself into something more difficult trying easy jumps and tricks at first, once you're good at those, step it up a bit. (=

The trick to going big is very simple, start on a jump youv'e hit before, either that or take a new one slow and easy, where you feel comfortable. Get up the hill a ways to where you can hit the jump straight on without any speed checking(going straight at the jump will increase your chance of landing straight and not hooking left or right due to speed checking right before the jump). Then each time down move up the hill a little more and more, without speed checking. Eventually you'll be getting enough speed to go big and you'll be hitting it straight on for reduced chance of bailing. Once you get used to this, you'll just sort of know on future jumps and then you can try other stuff and tricks. Go big or go home.... good luck!

Start small and progress to bigger jumps and rails as you get more confident in your riding abilities.
I have snowboarded for 4 years and skateboarded for almost 12. When I first started snowboarding, I thought I could just start destroying rails and jumps but a back injury quickly put an end to my gung-ho attitude.
I suggest getting a helmet - they're designed to look cool now and don't scream "DORK!". After you outgrow your falling, you can use the helmet for backcountry runs, so it's not a bad investment.
If you're really afraid of injuring yourself, you can get pads for almost every part of your body - back, butt, thighs, etc. Red Protection makes a whole set of these.

Start with the small jumps, rails, and boxes and move up from there. Remember to keep your speed and really try to visualize yourself riding up to the rail, sliding down, and jumping off. No one expects you to be Shawn White here. Just have fun hanging out with your friends, there's lots of time to get good at snowboarding. I'm 34 and I go bigger every year.

hey its ok, ive been there, instead of 16 however, i was 18... you sound like you really know what you got yourself into, which is good. you have nothing to be scared about. labor is no where as bad as people make it out to be. it's a wonderful amazing experience that you will never ever ever forget. the problem with teens these days having babys is that they dont realize the seriousness of the issue and refuse to give up what they need to and commit to being a full time mother. im glad the boy is being really supportive, mine was somewhat supportive, and we now have a 7 month old, healthy beautiful baby boy together, and we are still together. congrats on mommyhood and yes you will definitely know when you are in labor!

every year i get a little nervous too- but once you've been at it for an hour or so you'll know what you're comfortable with and you'll have a blast! if you don't land something, who cares. wear a helmet. every time you go you get a little better, so take every opportunity. I don't have the $$ right now and so I haven't been for a couple of years, but if i had the chance to i'd take it in a second! have a blast!

Do only what makes you feel comfortable. You don't have to go balls out everytimg you board. I know for me I had to work my way up to doing the crazy stuff by doing easy or less complicated tricks. I am pretty sure that once you have made a couple runs you will feel more ready to do crazy stuff.

if you are not prepared to go to the hospital, you do not belong on big kickers or rails.
