Symmetry is the noun form of the adjective symmetrical. Generally, something is symmetrical when it is identical on both sides. To see if something is symmetrical, draw a line down the middle and see if it looks the same on both sides of that line.

Symmetry is if you were to split a shape/object down the middle, both sides would look exactly the same. Examples are like a circle, square......maybe an umbrella's design. But things like you own computer wouldn't be an example, because if you look, there will be a certain number of buttons on one side, and then on the other side there may not be as many or none at all.

If you can draw a straight line through the middle of a figure and then fold it over where the two sides line up perfectly, you have symmetry. Classic example people use is the butterfly. Draw a line down its body and fold over. The wings are the "the same" on both sides (although in real life it is unlikely to see a butterfly that perfectly shaped).

a simple example would be shown using a womans body, is her top half of simular size to her lower half? are her breasts both the same size? are her arms about the same length as her legs ? do all of her proportions appear balanced ? If so she has symmetry! this factor can be used to many things not just a womans shape

If you make an (IMAGINARY) line standing in front of a mirror starting from your navel and extending straight up and below you will observe you have two of everything! hands, feet, eyes, ears, eyebrows, nostril! and on either side!
So a human body has two equal "halves" on either side-thats Symmetry for you!

When 2 sides are exactly the same almost like a mirror image
exact reflection of form on opposite sides of a dividing line or plane is the real definition

The previous answers explain the most common form of symmetry. There are many other kinds, in mathematics and otherwise.
For example, a circle is symmetric with respect to any rotation, with respect to reflection in any line that passes through its center, and so on. It's about the most symmetric thing there is.
A square is symmetric with respect to reflection around any one of four lines, and also with respect to rotation by 90 degrees (or any multiple of 90 degrees).
A line is symmetric with respect to reflection around any of its points, or around any line that is perpendicular to it.
A line segment is symmetric with respect to reflection around its midpoint, or around a line that is perpendicular to it at its midpoint.
And so on.
Or according to the William Blake poem, it can be the look of a "Tyger, tyger, burning bright" ;)

symmetry means that remain same in all conditions. for example:
you can write 8 on paper n see in mirror,it remain same whereas other alphabets get inverse.
