Great question. Well thought out. continue to ice it, and then wait. If the pain persists for a day or two, go see your doctor for an xray. They may need to immobilize it with splint.

In my experience, working in Orthopedics with this type of injury, I would always Xray it, as a "Jammed" finger frequently is a fracture, that needs special splints to heal properly. You only get one good chance for a fracture to heal properly, so treating it right from the start is important. I didn't mind if patients waited a day or two, as a significant injury or fracture will still hurt alot after two days, A simple contusion will feel better. This is one time I would suggested getting it examined and Xrayed.

Same thing happened to me. All you do is put ice on for a long time. Don't touch it, be careful with it and soon you will be able to bend it. Also try to bend all really because it will help it!

Not much you can do except leave it alone and give it some time to heal.
