Fiction or non fiction? Have you ever been so convinced something was going to happen that it actually did? I had a really bad feeling that I was going to wreck my car, and worrying about it, distracted me to the point that I did.

I would look for "Appointment in Samarra." This title refers to two stories. One is a fable from the Islamic world (Samarra is in modern Iraq). It involves a servant who sees death in the marketplace and asks his master for permission to ride to another town (Samarra). The master is annoyed at death and confronts him in the marketplace and death tells him he was surprise to see the servant as he has an appointment with him in Samarra later that day.

The second is a novel by John O'Hara with a similar theme but set in America in the mid 20th century. There's nothing supernatural but likewise the main character ends up fulfilling the precise prophesy his is afraid of.
