It's funny so many people are for or against racism, but often we never really know why we have. Obviously racisism will strengthen your community, it pulls everyone together for a common cause, to get rid of another group. But it can equally hurt your community as well. I was just talking to some students the other day that we see ourselves as many different people in the course of the day. We see ourselves based on gender, race, religion, etc. But most the time we don't see our selves as everything at the same time, some moments I'm really a guy, some times I'm a christian, sometimes I feel like a teacher.

When we focus too much on race, and see that as our primary source of identification, we can be lead astray by a lot of other forces. I'm white, and my boss is white, and so we're white together. But when pay day comes, he needs to give me my money, I'm not so white that I look at him the same then... it's in our personal best interest to not make any particular group too strong, and over powering of other social groups in our lives, because a balance keeps things in check... understand?

All together racism is stupid and pointless, but the bad thing is it's still all over the world. It can only hurt a community, either by it being forced upon them or if it's not. In The United States segregation has been abolished for years, but yet it still stands all over the U.S. People don't realize it, but blacks look bad at whites because of what has happened in the past , and the same goes for white looking down on blacks. All races tend to put themselves into social groups. Look at a school, you will usually see almost all black kids hanging out together with a couple whites in the mix (stereotype wiggers) and the same for all the other racial groups. And it's not just races, but social classes as well (i.e. rich hanging with rich, nerds hanging with nerds)

This depends on many things. How do you define YOUR community? My TOWN/City... no it will weaken it. My identity as a member of a "group?" for some people it will strengthen it. In my opinion, racism is necessary in some peoples minds so that they can belong to a defined group. They are either identifying as "black" "white" "New Yorkers" "Native Americans" "New Englanders" whatever your group is that you identify with. Most people identify with several groups. I id with "white, middle-class, women, mothers, homemakers, midwesterners, veterans..." to name a few. I am not saying I THINK racism will make MY community stronger... but there are some who would. Group Identity is something that everyone does just how much is healthy......

Obviously, it will weaken society. Racism is such a waste of brain cells. Why would you spend useful time hating someone because of their skin color or ethnicity. I just wish everyone would look at people as people, and not colors.

Canada is a good place for everyone and the reason is that we are tolerant of everyone.

Segregation should be reinstated. The whites don't want the blacks in their neighborhoods, the blacks don't want the whites in their neighborhoods, and noone wants the Mexicans. Forcing people to live together was a bad idea, if i wanted to experience black culture I would go to a black area not have it force fed to my kids in the public education system.
