What is a safe site for free music downloads? There are several songs that I want to put on it w/o buying the CD. Furthermore, how do I get the music onto the phone?

Free and descent legal music is impossible to get.
There are though sites that allow you to file share. and some naughty people use these free programmes to allow others to download their music collections.
Sites include, Kazaa, Morpheus, Limewire and Shareazza.
If these naughty people wanted to have the best chance of getting away with file sharing of music, they would choose Shareazza because it is harder to trace the users. Also naughty people know that the music industry only really go after people who download or share 1,000's of tracks. So most people are ok and safe anyway.
The programmes themselves are easy to use once you know how.
Once you download the music on to your PC you can transfer it across to your phone by bluetooth or Wireless connection in some cases.
Most phones only accept files in MP3 format. So make sure they are in MP3 format. If they are not then convert the file into MP3 by using a paid for programme or free programme. These are legal and there are plenty of them. Just search Google with similar terms to "convert my music files to MP3"
Once they are on your phone you can use them to just listen to or indeed set them as ring tones.
If you want just the main chorus of a song as your ringtone (so you dont just get the long intro when your phone rings) then you will need to split your MP3 file into parts. (You can choose which parts). For this download an "MP3 splitter" some are free, some are paid for. Just search Google.
