Standard - you can't beat it in snow. Automatics always start in first gear, no matter what the indicator says, so it's often too much torque for snow. With a standard transmission, I can start in second, effectively halving the torque. Also, in snow, I can downshift SMOOTHLY to slow down, without risking locking up the wheels. Much better on gas, and much more fun. As a bonus, if you ever leave you lights on while parked, you can start with a flat battery by rolling it down a hill and letting out the clutch. Try doing THAT with an automatic!

Standard and I love it! My parents told me I couldn't get my license until I took the test in a standard car. I've always been slightly afraid of driving and at first driving a manual made my fears even more apparent, but as I got the hang of things, driving a stick has given me a lot more confidence driving. It gives the driver so much more control. Now I hate driving automatics because I can't feel what the car is doing as well. If you're debating on what to learn or purchase my advise would be to learn/buy a standard, you won't regret it. I like it because gas mileage is better, people can't always borrow your car because they can't drive it, and if you ever need to borrow a car you can drive anything. Go for the manual!

Standard.

With the exception of drivers' ed in HS, every single car, truck, SUV & motorcycle I have operated has had a manual transmission. I would never purchase any vehicle with an automatic transmission - shifting gears is an inseparable part of driving.

if by standard u mean manual transmission then yeah thats what i drive. i chose to buy a manual because i have more control over my car, it goes faster ( cos i can change the gears myself rather than waiting for them to change) and i love driving and i dont feel ur really driving in an automatic.
