Actually, that is my favorite time to visit Europe. There really are not a lot of tourists in most places, but you will find some castles have more limited hours. You will have a little trouble finding accomodations around Munchen if you don't make prior reservations, however. I find it a particularly beautiful time to go to Euope in the autumn when the air is crisp and the leaves are turning.

It's a great time of year to visit. The Europeans tend to go on vacation in August, but by September their kids are back in school and things are calmer. The number of tourists is greatly reduced.
Remember that Oktoberfest is in September. You can stay outside Munich and take the train in and back for the day. Otherwise, make reservations well in advance.
