I'm having a birthday party soon, and I was thinking that a retro, 1950's party might be fun. The colors would be black, aqua, and a little bit of pink and silver (like a diner.) Of course, we'd watch Grease and things like that, but I need some more ideas. For instance:

What foods (for dinner) were popular?

What music (bands, singers) was popular?

Any ideas for party games, etc.?

Thanks :)

I had a 50's themed party when I was in grade school. It was a blast. We went to a diner and had burgers and floats, then went back to my house and played games. On the way home we stopped at a phone booth to see how many people we could cram inside (I guess that's something they did back then, good luck finding a phone booth now) We had a goldfish eating contest (with goldfish crackers) and a hula hoop contest. For music we bought a bunch of greatest hits tapes from the 50's, they shouldn't be to hard to find on CD. The best part was that my grandma made poodle skirts for every girl at my party and they all got to take them home!

I think any foods would be fine. Popcorn would be good. You can even find those red and white popcorn boxes at party supply stores. A great idea for serving bowl are to make them from old albums. Invert a heat proof bowl spray lightly with a non-stick spray, place the album on top and place in a 250 degree oven until soft then mold it over the bowl. These are really easy and work great. Old albums hung on the walls make cute decorations. For music I would just get a few of those mixed oldies albums like best of the 50's . For games I'm not sure you could make up a fifties trivia. The limbo was pretty popular then. Don't forget to add dirty dancing to the movie list. The soundtrack from it would also be a good choice for music. Roll your jeans wear a scorf around your necks or of course the poodle skirt.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

Communism, ignoring the Korean War, constant fear of a nuclear attack, bomb shelters in backyards, racism at it's highest point in American history. Oh yeah, the 50's were the best.

In terms of foods, McDonald's just came out and was getting pretty popular pretty quick. I'm sure you can get McDonald's memorabilia on EBay or something like that.

Elvis was raising to his Royalty in the Rock & Roll world. So was Little Richard and there were thousounds of Jazz and Blues artists out there making a name for themselves.

Party ideas, I really can't say. I don't know your space and friends so I can't advice you on what to hold and where.

I've held a MASH themed party once. It was a real hit.

Good luck.
