I am using windows XP and I can't get the computer I am using to locate the network server. There are several other computers on the network and they all work properly.

You probably need to join the domain. Right-click on My Computer > Properties > Computer Name Tab > Click change to join the domain or workgroup.

This may require a Domain Admin's password.

Not enough info but I'll try to give you some clues.

1) If u know the hostname of the network server, try to ping it using hostname. Does it reply?
2) If it does not work, try to ping using the ip address, does it reply?
3) If the answer comes back as "unknown hostname", then you're having some problem with DNS (nobody using WINS nowadays with Windows XP/2003). If it's timeout, then you have problem with network routing.

If this trouble PC is able to get to Internet, I think it might be just some stupid setting that causes the problem. If you give us more specific info, I can answer better

I am assuming you can connect to other servers and the internet from this pc.

there is a cache you need to clear first... I think its the name cache.
If you can ping this serve using its address then but not its dns name then the problem lies in XP naming cache.
If you cannot ping it using the ip address then there is something else wrong.

you aren't giving enough information. Are you trying to join a domain? Are you getting a proper IP address from the DHCP server? Can you ping other machines?

Well your new PC does not have to take into consideration
the other PCs. Are you using a LAN or a Wireless connection??
You need to enable file sharing and adjust your firewall to
allow your new PC to recognize the other PCs and be recognized as well.

Email me for more details bud,

Joe.
