Go to the website below. They will have a list of jeweler training programs in your state... or you can go to http://www.schoolofgemology.com/
which offers online at-home gemology training.

With all possible respect to companies offering gemmology training on line there is NO way in the world that you will learn to be a gemmologist or an appraiser by sitting at a computer terminal. Of course you will be given a very pretty piece of paper saying you are a graduate of this or that college but it is nothing but a statement that you have some understanding of the basics of the science. Gemmology is probably the most "hands on" of all the sciences. You can only detect the difference between the top colours of diamond after years of experience handling stones every day of your working life and a mistake of even half a colour grade can make a difference of tens of thousands of pounds to a valuation. As to coloured stones there are even more pitfalls.
By all means take an on line training course but this is only the beginning - it is like getting a provisional driving license, you have a long way to go before you drive a Formula 1 car. Use the knowledge you gain to find a job where you will be in contact with gemstones every day, this is the ONLY way you will begin to understand that every stone is unique and how to appreciate the way it is valued.
Please do not think that I am trying to put you off, far from it I wish you every success and please do not give up. I have been a professional gemmologist for more than 40 years and I have loved every moment, it has taken me around the world several times and provided me with a good living. You must understand however that appraisal is not a skill that comes from books or the Internet it is the art of putting all your understanding and experience of gemstones to work every time you see a new stone and sometimes even using the intuition you develop as stones become like second nature to you.
All the very best with your career plans but be prepared for a long apprenticeship.
