Toshiba is a very good company. They produce good quality hardware. However, be advised that they did have an issue with a number of there systems. This was a software issue to do with a driver incompatibiliy. Devices such as modem, sound card and/or graphics would spontaniously vanish from the hardware list. This would force you to uninstall and then reinstall the drivers to get them working again. This issue has been resolved, but it did take Toshiba a very long time to rectify it. This was surprising as I had several machines come into my workshop withthis fault.

View the fact that I would still recommend these machines inspite of this as a mark of there quality. I would definitely buy one of there computers, but probably not from curry's. Take a look at http://www.dabs.com , you might just find the same computer for a better price.

Regards A.

Toshiba have been making laptops for a long long time.. they are well proven, well tried and tested. I doubt you will haev a significant problem

Id be surprised if Currys or PC World were the best price of anything especially a laptop... and there customer service is usually pretty awfull in my experience.. to many spotty kids not enough knowledgable people

make sure you put aside some of your budget for Anti Virus (yes you can download AVG and other free packagaes which reportedly work well)

Id get a laptop with as fast a processor as possible, as alrage memory as possible (I wouldnt want to run any XP machine with less than 1GB, and make sure the graphics subsystem uses its own dedicated memory.. preferably using either NVidia or ATI.

I have had a Toshiba laptop since I started college five years ago. I have not had to have any major repairs on it. I love it! When I first started looking at computers my dad asked the computer guy at his work and the guy told us that the Toshiba would give us more for our money in the long run. Hope that helps some!

Bought a secondhand Toshiba laptop 5 years ago when my daughter went to university. Still going strong. Someone in the trade told me their TV's are reliable too.

Someone reliable once told me that he swears by Toshiba because it is still 100% a Japanese company whereas others such as Sony, Sanyo and Hitachi make most of their products in Korea and Taiwan now.

..... i use compaq's, that have been excellent.... However i've noticed that Toshiba and Acer alway's pack bigger hardware in their laptop's with some Acer's even including graphic's, yet their prices barely change.... So, even though compaq's are an excellent computer,.... i'm seriously thinking about switching to a Toshy or Acy next, because whilst there's not much difference price-wise, there's a very big difference in hardware spec's.... Plus Toshiba is an established name in computer's....
