Giuliani shouldn't be written off so easily, but I do agree that he is probably not going to be president in '08. Experts generally agree (correctly IMHO) that Giuliani will not be able to carry his own party, and won't make it past the Republican Primary. Rudy's pro-choice and pro-gay rights position make him an unsuitable candidate for the religious right. Giuliani would probably do okay among "blue state" republicans, but I think he will get crushed throughout the South, a demographic key to getting the nomination.
I think he polls well now because, according to a Washington Post article recently written, only 1 in 5 republicans knew Giuliani's social policies. Further, after being told of those policies, his appeal among pollees significantly diminished.

Americans love "heroes." It's rather ironic that he's polling so well considering that until 9/11 his numbers were in the dumpster.
However, come the primaries, the enthusiasm that you are currently seeing will likely die off. The big problem for Giuliani is that his politics are not exactly in line with the Republican Party leadership.
The Republicans are very mindful of appealing to the religious right - look how quickly John McCain caved in to them. One day McCain is (rightly) calling people like Falwell and Robertson "agents of intolerance" and the next, he's shamelessly cuddling up to them. McCain understands perfectly well the sort of ethical compromises he needs to make if he wants the backing of the Republican leadership.
Giuliani, if I'm not mistaken, is a supporter of gay rights and a woman's right to choose - political poison for the Republican Party. Unless he starts cozying up to the extreme elements of the Republican Party like McCain, he has little chance of getting the GOP's backing.

Rudy is extremely qualified. He is dedicated to the Country, he has as proven his worth and shown what he believes in. As NY State Prosecutor, he destroyed the Mafia Empire by putting most of the Dons in Prison. He did a good job as Mayor of NYC, especially during and after 9/11. He's a street smart, educated, fair and experienced person that would make an excellent President no matter what party he represented. So far, he has my vote.

because most people polled haven't see the negative ads that are probably being brewed up right now. Notice that the area that he poled worst in is New York where people acually know about the person, not the one shot image. on September 10, his political career was about to end after many scandals and such. very messy public life. I won't go into details here though.
and gizmo, you are aware that Gore did win? the recount was completed by an independent group- Gore won if all ballots were counted. Not to mention winning the popular vote.

I trust Rudy Giuliani as far as i can throw a grand piano by the back leg! He shipped 9/11 evidence out of this country. He's a criminal! A traitor!

As a republican, he is not very conservative. He attracts supporters from a wide political spectrum. If he becomes the Republican nominee he will be supported by Republicans and a lot of Democrats.

He won't go to far because if he is the Republican nominee, the white trash theocrats that comprise 60% of the GOP will stay home on election day.
