Yes you can create a virtual memory card in the Hard Drive and save your games on it, and you don't need a PS2 memory card at all if you started playing the game on the PS3.

If you want to transfer you old saves from the memory card to the Hard Drive you will need the adapter it is $14.99 USD you can get it at almost any store (Walmart, target, best buy, circuit city, ebgames, gamestop).

The process of transfer you old saves to the Hard drive is similar to the one for saving direct to the hard drive first you create a virtual memory card on the PS3 and then you save your files there.

You can have as many virtual memory cards as you want.

It's very simple to and easy to use.

Hope this help you.

To use saved data on a PS2 Memory Card, you must copy the data onto an internal memory card within the hard disk on the PS3. This requires a PS2/PS one Memory Card adaptor (sold separately) to copy the data to your PS3.
