The light turned yellow at the stoplight, so we couldn't stop because it would be a very hard stop. So my dad actually floored the durango and it have no power to it at all. I mean, it made an effort noise, but it really didn't go! So we ended up getting flashed by the redlight camera....we're waiting for the fine.

Are durango's just slow, or does it really need a tune-up? Its a V8...just the regular kind.

i dont know if this is how your car has always been but dodges tend to have bad transmissions. im not a mechanic but that could be part of it. recently i had to get a rental and it was a brand new 2007 durango, less than 1000 miles. the trany had a tendancy to slip out of gear if the rpms were too low or too high, very dangerous. So i took it back and got another new durango, same thing happens(just my latest bad dodge experience). But i think it could be a transmission problem you are having, possibly its not down shifting properly or slipping out of gear so there isnt any power. a v8 should have more than enough power so i doubt its an engine problem. have it checked out soon.

I have a question on this..when you approached the light...did the car down shift? from your statement you could have a problem with transmission or...a partially plugged exhaust/catalytic convertor. the tune up may also help...I had a case of an LT1 Camaro engine falling on its face on hard accel from stop.. the coil wire was breaking down.

It could be that you need a tune up; the vehicle could also need to have the fuel injectors cleaned; a decent mechanic probably won't charge you anything to check out where the problem lies...good luck...
