Why is this question in Astronomy? Or, for that matter, in Science?
By the way, I don't think that any single person could give you a reasonable answer to this question, unless s/he has done an opinion poll of a representative sample of the whole human population. I'd say George W. Bush (though I'd rather call him INfamous), but I'm European, so I have relatively close contact with news about the US. Who knows how many Chinese or Indians or Africans don't have a clue and don't give a damn about who the American president is? And Chinese and Indians and Africans are a huge number of people.

Besides, the list of people that come to one's mind when thinking about such a question is strongly influenced by things they've experienced in the recent past. In particular, I've read endless debates about the war in Iraq on a forum I visit, so it may be that Mr Bush only pops into my mind because I've heard so much about him recently.

I would say Hitler, all the Jews know him and lots of other races still display anti semitism and hatred of the jews in his name. Every person who has gone through a history class knows him. He if used has an example alot. He is also very famous due to WW2.

You are, obviously. Who is more famous to you than you? You are an absolute star and people should bow down to you in the street. Even here I can feel the incandescent heat of your intellect!

Has to be a toss-up between George W, and Bin Laden. Everyone loves them or hates them, to equal and opposite degrees.

George W. Bush. I'm sure that his name is known by more people than anyone else who's living.
