What is the Renaissance? How did it come about? I've tried Google and Ask but it's not working! Please help me!

Please do not freak out, I am not asking you a question that is coming out of a textbook or my class assignment. I just don't know much about it and all I really need is just a website about it. Can you help me?

Renaissance means rebirth. This period saw a rebirth in knowledge. The Renaissance was turning from God to man. Science and the arts were becoming more important. Christopher Columbus discovered America and Michelangelo was painting the Sistine Chapel. William Shakespeare was writing his famous plays.
