PORTUGUESE! Last I heard, Rio de Janeiro wasn't in the Dominican Republic. And no it's not the MOST spoken language, it's THE language spoken there.

Of course a lot of people speak more than one language, and English is often one of them. And most Brazilians can understand Spanish if it is spoken slowly and without slang, but most native Spanish speakers often have a hard time understanding Brazilian Portuguese.

With its bright sandy beaches, leaping hills and picturesque harbour, it's no surprise that Rio de Janeiro is called the "cidade maravilhosa", or marvellous town and with hotelbye you can take the chance and visit this particular city. Rio de Janeiro is facing the South Atlantic coast and could be the second-largest town in Brazil. This city is blessed with one of the very wonderful organic settings for a area in the world. The spectacular landscape is just one of the reason why that visitors decided Rio de Janeiro. During carnival season, a festival that every one heard, the streets load with music and ornately costumed performers getting tourists from all around the globe.

Rio was once the capital of Brazil. Brazil's national language is Portuguese - not Spanish. I am sure you can hear Spanish there as well, as you will also hear German, English, Italian, etc... (Rio is a vacation hot spot, and South American countries are populated by indigenous people and European immigrants)

Portuguese as it is the official language in Brasil. When I moved there I found it very difficult to communicate with people in English outside of Ipanema and Copacabana.

Brasilian Portuguese is different from european portuguese just like american english is different to Oxford English. But it has a beautiful sound and melody to it. Try and learn it, am sure you will agree:)
