He sounds like a devout Christian who's not very open minded to new ideas. Don't get me wrong, for those who believe in the Bible and would recommend it to others well, good for you. But the truth remains that the more you read, the more you can broaden your horizon to new ideas. There are many other good books you should read.

If he's serious, he's a pompous jerk. More likely he was just trying to be humorous. If you suspect he was serious, you might point out the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus says, "Blessed are the Meek..." Just don't expect an "A" in his class.
