It is illegal in many state to live together and not be married, the law is just not enforced, until the govt thinks you want something from them. Some people called me nuts I call the IRS and they said (Karen S. # 5909319) as long as it is not illegal to cohabitate together in GA (it is in FL) I could be a qualifying dependent. Page 20, Booklet 1040. Thanks

Well, in many states once you file taxes together you are considered to be married by common law. Be careful what you ask for.

Your BF can claim you on his taxes as a dependent only if he was legally obliged to, and actually did, pay the majority of your support. That does not appear to be the case here. The question of living together, married or otherwise, has nothing to do with that. If you were married, a joint return could be filed which might save some money, but not on 2006 taxes since that year is over.

Cohabitate is legal but no such thing as comman law marriage. You should call the IRS on this one, just to stay on the safe side if your worried.

Do you cohabitate believing as husband and wife? If so, that has been annulled in the state of GA. I know I've been through it myself.

There are rules about who qualifies as a dependent, age, income, amount of care, etc. If you dont follow these you could end up in jail.
