This is a good question. I am planning to buy some LED lights for my Harley when I go to the Chicago Motorcycle Show next weekend. I have checked the motor vehicle code section for accessory lights in Illinois and could not find anything specifically saying they are legal or not. Each state could have it's own rules regarding LEDs. I'd suggest you check with your states DMV, They may be able to point you in the right direction. I guess I'm going to have to do more research myself.

It really depends on the state. I have over 30 blue leds on my white bike. In California, you can not have flashing lights or pointing directly out in any direction. There is no rules regarding specific colors, except for Brake and Turn signal lights. I have ridden past 100's of local, sheriff, and Highway patrol and never once been stopped. I have had some come up to me at gas stations just to talk about my bike.

Anything you'd like other than red or blue, providing you don't have them on while on the road. But in the parking lot, or at the show, feel free.
