I don't know about your school district..but ours is very strict when it comes to food...and absolutely NO peanut items. So working within those guidelines...you could get large apples and slice the slides...then using a heart shaped cookie cutter...cut them into heart shapes. You can also do heart shapes with jello..you may even be able to find cupid cookie cutters. And so not everything is hearts you can mix in other shapes as well. Also...you can make sandwiches and cut them into hearts...it is quick is and fun. You could even set up a station where the kids can do it themselves! Just about anything you can slice can be made into shapes quickly and easily...cheese..etc. Colored candied popcorn is always a fast easy one. Too keep it low fat use unsalted unbuttered popcorn...then use a SMALL amount of buttered flavored oil (Orville redenbocker makes it) Then sprinkle with red and white sprinkles(the colored sugar crystals)...you can even add a little salt for a salty sweet treat. If you are allowed a little naughtiness at your school...rice crispy treats with a little food dye added to make them pink or red...can be easily made and in large batches..then cut into shapes. Good Luck...Have Fun!! Oh..and next time your at the grocery store...scan the magazine rack..you can find some amazing, easy, and inexpensive ideas in them!

Fairy bread. Butter pieces of bread and then spread sprinkles or 100 & 1000's on them. The topping you put on ice cream. Cut them up into little squares or you could even get a love heart cutter.
