No, the Super Bowl has been played in February ever since 9/11. The NFL did not play any games the week of 9/11, which delayed the rest of the season 1 week, and pushed the Super Bowl to the first Sunday in February. They just kept it the same ever since.

TO andy
Due to the September 11, 2001 attacks and the NFL schedule being moved one week back, Super Bowl XXXVI was thus rescheduled from the original date of January 27 to February 3. Because of the attacks, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has designated each subsequent Super Bowl a National Special Security Event (NSSE). By 2003, the league had restored the traditional pre-Super Bowl bye week that had been abolished prior to the 2001 NFL season, to reduce the possibility of the Super Bowl being unexpectedly delayed again.

Since the inception of the "bye" week (just a few years ago) the SB which has always been played two weeks after the Conference Championship has been played in Feb. This has nothing to do w/ A.A. history month. BYE week meaning instead of 16 weeks the season is now 17 weeks.

No....there's always a by week between the conference championships and the superbowl...gives the players a chance to rest up and prepare. The schedule was made waaay before they knew there'd be two african american coaches this year in the super bowl.

No. There usually is a 2 week time frame before the Super Bowl. I think I remember one year with only one week - it may have been when they first went to 17 week schedule.

There is always a one week delay. It's so the players can go down to a nuetral field and get acclimated. It also gives the media time to hype it up, resulting in more money.

uh...no...the bye week is to rest/practice , allow for travel, allow mass-media coverage & interviews, etc.
btw, does anyone who closely followed the NFL in 2002 know what happened to make the SB get pushed to february? because they've always had a bye week.
wait..(^ guy above) --how was it wildcards --they've always had wildcard teams (atleast since the 3 (then) division set up)
