convicted congressmen still receive pensions.......anywhere from $47-$92K a year. you are the voters. do you support this?..of course not. now tell me those in office aren't taking care of each other instead of doing what's best for the nation. i wont even go into the 3 day work week for congress.....oh thats right the dems changed that...AFTER they took off those three days to watch the NCAA football championship....laughable

I think, people other than republicans, know that the whole system is corrupt and needs to be fixed.

As I've said elsewhere:

Actually, if you research, it isn't just the Democrats that are pushing this.

This same thing was actually passed in 2006 by the 109th Congress (legislation introduced by Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), and helped passed by Bob Ney himself. And a similar measure passed the House in 1996.

They have been trying for quite some time to get this changed.

In fact, the Democrats have trimmed the bill down to only include 4 felonies. The Republican bill included 21 felonies that would cause pensions to be stripped. Can't we go this far?

OK, I agree, that's not right. But what about food stamps, Medicaid, Aid to Families with Dependent Children (or whatever it's called these days), the federal highway system, air traffic control, the National Park Service, HUD, the Department of Education, FDA, the US Department of Agriculture (which helps keep our food safe) and on and on and on?

And I wish you Bush haters among the other posters would pay attention in government class before you blame every little ill and woe on Republicans and George Bush. Liberals are all about big government, tax and spend, entitlements, etc.. Conservatives would like to limit government authority, cut spending, reform government.

The newly democratic congress has changed the rules that convicted congressional felons will no longer receive a pension. Unfortunately they did not make it retroactive, but that was because there were alot of rumblings by the opposition who opposed the retroactivity.

When are you going to realize both the republicans and democrats are crooked? We need sweeping change, even if it means falling back to the foundational principle. The constitution is the foundation.
