The confidence to be an effective leader, to demonstrate through actions and words how to be a good, loyal person who works hard for himself and for his family. But also open-minded, allowing the child to develop their own personality and interests independently. An ideal parent is someone who has actually lived the kind of life we encourage our youth to seek out. Someone who enjoys life, enjoys people, enjoys the challenges and all of the ups and downs that go along with it.
After 18 years of teaching high school, I can say it sure seems like the brightest and happiest kids are the ones with the brightest and happiest parents regardless of background or beliefs.

Love, I know how lucky I am to have TWO parents that did pretty well off financally in the world but because of that, I never saw them. My mom was always working and my dad worked swing shifts. There was never any love and tenderness in the house. They were never involved in my life and they didn't seem to care. I know that they love me but they had a funny way of showing it.

Two parents that show love and respect for each other.
The same love and respect for the child with discipline that is fair and consistent. Do not lie to them and answer their questions when they ask in an age appropriate way so they will trust coming to you with their problems and concerns.
