she's a great performer but i don't think she'll win them all
there are other artists who are better than her in some fields.

I am one of Mary's biggest fans and of course I would love it if she would sweep all 8 nominations, but that is rarely the case. Just having 8 nominations, and all the press of being the 'leader' from the day they announce these, up to the day of the awards show, is great press and advertising revenue possibilities for Mary.

Several years ago I was very dissapointed when Alicia Keys swept the Grammy's. I love Alicia, but here is the deal. Right behind her with a bunch of nods was India Arie. I wanted both Alicia AND India to do well, but what happened was Alicia got every award she was up for.

There is a scene that year that really hit my heart strings. India had just performed and they were announcing the very last award that India had a chance of winning. They showed her back stage, with the band U2 standing around her, and as soon as they read it, and it was not India, she dropped her head and started crying. Bono went up to her and hugged her, trying to console her and other band members moved in very compassionately.

That first album of India's deserved at least ONE Grammy.

So, in reality Mary could walk away with nothing. It has happened before.

I do not put much stock into any of these awards shows anymore. There are too many of them, and they only apply to mainstream music. What about the independent artists? Or those who just don't get the right amount of radio time?

I grew up in the days of Whitney Houston. I remember really liking her back then. But wait, VH-1 and MTV, and the radio and everywhere you went was 'Whitney-OVERLOAD'. All of that being shoved down my throat made me run from Whitney, even knowing she had great talents, it was just TOO MUCH!

But, back to Mary. She has had this amazing talent all her life. If she sweeps the Grammy's so be it. She swept the American Music Awards with 9!

I think last year was Mary's year of reaching some level of greatness within the mainstream music community. She has been very wise in her musical choices over the past several years, and no matter how she does, she will have a life long career, if she so chooses!
