My hypnotist told me because I am taking antidepressant and antianxiety medication that whatever improvments we achieve in our sessions will sieze to be whenever I quit the meds. She said that if I were to then later start them again, the progress would again be evident too. Is this true? Does this mean it would be better to just quit the meds before continuing with the sessions? Also, if you fall asleep during hypnosis, is it less effective?
thanks

Your brain is on drugs. Hypnosis works on your brain. You should pick one. (I'd quit drugs)
Falling asleep is fine- it actually helps the process.

Antidepressants and anxiolytics should not have a negative effect on hypnotherapy. They should, in fact, enhance it. The benefits of hypnotherapy may be affected if the meds are discontinued because one should enhance the other. I would strongly advise against discontinuing meds.

What the hypnotherapist said about restarting meds and the progress would again be evident is true and obvious. The effects of any medication stop if the med is dicontinued and are felt once again when the med is restarted. This isn't revolutionary, it's common sense.

You won't "fall asleep".

Yes, falling into a "deep" sleep will be ineffective since you will not respond to the command and suggestions given you.
If you on those medications you would be more receptive and should carry over what you have done during a session if you stop. But your on those medications and should not stop unless your doctor tells you too. You were put on them for a reason.
