I'd say the furry little booger wil be about as accurate as my local TV news station weatherman.

Not more than a short time in advance. They can hear thunder and respond to it but they cannot know what the weather will do tomorrow or next week. Most supposed indications that animals can predict weather are the result of poor observations or observations in hindsight.

No. The old saying is that if the groundhog sees their shadow, there will be 6 more weeks of winter. Otherwise, winter will be over much sooner.
It's always been a foolish idea, since all it depends on is light. In the past, it was sunlight -- a random occurance on any given winter day in history. These days, the media presence is so huge that there are always enough camera lights to cause a shadow to be present.

The hog has to be better than my local weatherman who has predicted snow 7 out of the last 14 days for my area.
We have received none.

No. Ground hogs day is basically nothing but a tradition. It was believed in the early days but now its pure nonsense.

Only if he sees his shadow. Ground hogs are near sighted and only come out if something smells good.

No, but is a deep rooted tradition. So, just have fun with it.
Besides, we all know the Robins predict the coming of spring.

No sirree. It doesn't matter to ol' Mother Nature if a little ball of fluff sees his shadow or not, though it kinda fun to see.
