depends on how old. if the kid is too young to know what he/she did then u can scold and punish but if he/ she is old enough to know then go ahead, spank the child. as long as you know that line that shouldn't be crossed.

"There is clear, un-challenged evidence that states spanking is unnecessary and has no long-term behavioural benefits for the child." That's simple nonsense. For a start, I challenge it. There, now it's not unchallenged any more. It never was. How do I justify my actions? It works for me. It's the _only_ thing that works for me. Actually, that's not quite true. I believe my daughter would respond to grounding. Of course, then she'd be kicked out of her music groups, and the sports teams she is in, and her skating teacher who is extremely oversubscribed would take on a pupil who could be relied on to be at every lesson instead of her. This would be better for my daughter than a short, sharp shock how? A spank is a quick, instant form of discipline which is then over and done with. There's no need to mess other people about ("oh, I'm sorry, x can't come play after all, he's been bad") or to make the choice between doing something which might result in your child missing the experience of a lifetime ("such a shame the choir's been invited to sing on TV but my daughter's grounded at the moment") or teaching them that actually you won't carry through with the discipline when push comes to shove. And, since my kids particularly dislike being spanked, I almost never get to that stage. "Stop that NOW or there will be a smacked bottom" WORKS. They stop. End of problem.

Kind of a weird question in the Tennis category. Raise your kids as you see fit. I do not spank my girls, I know my wife has , probably because she is with them more, I rarely even yell, if they do something that is inappropriate or stupid I explain what I think they should have done or should act and it usually works. I do not like anyone hitting my babies,

Yes, Kids are spoiled these days because their parents do not punish them enough. Spanking to a degree actually teaches children how to behave properly.

Not sure what this has to do with tennis, unless you're planning to whack your kids with a tennis racket. Besides, if you really are a 'cute baby girl', shouldn't you be the one getting spanked?

Instead of spanking, why don't you try using reinforcement to substitute behaviors that you like for ones that you don't like?

Damn right you should! None of that 'touchy feely' time out crap.

The biblical reference isn't a suggestion...it's a warning. IF you don't spank them, you WILL spoil them.

If you want to teach your children that violence is the solution to life's problems... then by all means, spank away.
