5 miles in 6 minutes = 50 miles in 60 minutes = 50 m/hr

Therefore, the speedometer reading is too high.

First responder is wrong. Maybe inhaling too much smoke. 60 miles per hour is one mile per minute. You were going .833 miles per minute (5 mi divided by 6 minutes).
.833 miles per minute times 60 minutes per hour = 50 miles per hour. The second answer is correct.
Most speedometers show a higher than actual speed. Otherwise, the manufacturers would be getting sued every time some one gets a speeding ticket.

at 55 you should travel 5.5 miles so your speedometer is reading a little high, you would have been travelling at 50.
