This should be a physics question.

Although gravity is by no means a weak force the answer above is right in one respect - chemical bonds are STRONGER.

Gravity plays a part. Gravity among atoms is called van der Waals forces. More important are covalent bonds, ionic bonds, salt bridges, hydrogen bonds, and dipole-dipole interactions. Just about the only things that's not important are Heitler-London forces.
