It is a wonderful idea, and I highly recommend it.
However, why in the world would you want or need a 40 ft motorhome? I suggest a 24 to 28 ft class C motorhome for several reasons:

1) It is like driving a uhaul type truck ... easier to maneuver ... for anyone of any age.

2) You will be able to access a lot of places a 40 ft motorhome can't, esp. in camping areas. Almost all campgrounds anywhere can accomodate a 28 ft or shorter RV, but many can't accomodate larger ones. Especially wilderness areas and campgrounds off the beaten track will sometimes have too many sharp curves to even drive through.

3) It will be easier on fuel, even a small savings can make a difference.

4) For one person, even with a pet/s, 24 to 28 ft is sufficient living area, esp if you are picky about the floor plan when you are making your purchase, and get just what you want. Along those lines, many newer RV's have one or more slide-outs, in a class C motorhome of that size, probably one, but it adds significantly to living area.

If you are deadset on a 40 ft motorhome, go for it, but you will find yourself more hampered by it I would think. Take a look at Class C motorhomes and see what you think. Also do some research on the kinds of areas you want to go to.

Most of all, follow your dream and enjoy!!!

sounds easy, but not really,. it is like driving with 3 1/2 cars hooked behind you,, you just need to take it easy and watch those turns..
