ok first off: most emo kids are the happiest craziest hypperest (if thats a word) pple youll ever make, so don't make the mistake of thinking there all depressed.
second: emo was made to be a style, not a label. it was made for clothing and music.
fourth: to the people who think emo's are former preps, or grunge, or goth, or cut themselves constantly, your wrong. it takes a depressed kid to cut themsleves, a retarded kid to go from prep to emo, and a like of all things black (and usually atheist) to be goth. none of which are emo style.

hope i helped.

Jesus christ you people x(. Emo is "emotional" It has nothing to do with being depressed. Some people are "emo" by their clothes style. It's mostly a style that comes with the music. Technically we are all "emo". But it's best not to label people in the first place. And there is a difference between "emo" and "goth" if you want an example of a "goth" person you can go to this link: www.myspace.com/blackp0pe
That person happens to be myself.

emo stand for "emotional"... and I don't know why, haha

it's a new genre of music that was "discovered" within the last 5 or 6 years.

But actually the style of music was around long before it had a name.

The most notible band from the 80's is "The Cure"

As each generation is born into the world, they often "discover" things that have been around for a long time.

Thats just people who are wannabes.
I like Emo Rock too but I don't act depressed all the time.
Besides whats the fun in being a label why not just be yourself its load more fun than being a label.

It started out as a music thing (a combo of punk and alternative rock) and worked its way into a sort of poser goth fashion style, so yes, an emo person is a poser, of a sort. Just not in the traditional sense. (Because your true goth doesn't whine about how the world hates them. They revel in their hatred for the world.)

emo is short for 'emotional'

It has been coopted by a bunch of depressed people, but depressed people tend to make some decent music.

Think about the blues - if it weren't for women treatin' their man wrong, we would've missed out on a lot of great music!

well, emo is short for "emo"tional. in order to be emo, you have to be emotional, or sad, for the majority of the time. some emos do cut themselves [like me], but you don`t have to. so yeah, you don`t always have to be depressed, like when you`re with your friends or something, having fun, you can be "happy", but that doesn`t make you overall "happy". i believe they`re two different types of emos; ones that wear a lot of black [sorta of like goth] and ones that wear cartoon shirts/sorta preppy, but not preppy outfits. and they usually listen to depressing, or rock/punk rock music. so basically, you`re not emo, unless you`re "depressed" about something, otherwise you`re just yourself.

If you were truly emo, and not just trying to look the part because it's "cool", then it is probably due to depression.

I would be depressed all the time, too, if I looked like an emo f,ag.

When referring to a person's personality and attitude, most definitions of emo hold that an "emo person" is candid about their emotions, sensitive, shy, introverted, broken-hearted, glum, and often quiet
