I have pulled a muscle in my wrist and I am struggling to handle my 10 week old baby. I would like to use some voltarin or deep heat on it to treat, would this go into my milk supply??

According to Medications & Mother's Milk, Voltaren is a L2, which means "safer." (L1 is safest, L5 means a big no-no.)

Hale says the level of milk transfer is too low to affect the infant and reports no pediatric concerns.

ETA:
ALL package inserts, even Tylenol, say not to use it while you're pregnant or nursing. (Cover your behind tactic on the manufacturer's end.) Hale's info is the most accurate.

Deep heat on your wrist will not affect your supply, but I'm not sure about the voltarin. Do a lookup on Dr. Hale's website.

It would be a good idea to ask your pharmacist or GP. I was given voltaren tabs after the birth of my daughter and was breastfeeding. Really it is a decision that has to be made whether the benefits to your health outweigh the risk to your baby. I think deep heat is fine I've used it quite a few times and is a topical treatment so will be better than an oral/digestible treatment.

Why don't you call a lactation specialist or a pharmacist before you take anything. They can tell you if it is safe or not. Or your baby pediatrician. Also.. a heating pad wont hurt your milk. Good luck

Sorry I am not much help here!

Instead of deep heat, use a hot water bottle...same effect, but ZERO chance of any thing going into your milk supply :)

From the medication insert the pharmacy supplies with the medication:

FOR WOMEN: USE OF THIS MEDICATION DURING PREGNANCY has resulted in fetal and newborn death. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. THIS MEDICATION IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using the medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

So, yes, it goes into the breast milk, and therefor you should avoid it unless your pediatrician says it is ok. That, or switch to formula until your wrist is better.
