The primary cash crop is cocoa, others include yams, various grains, kola nuts, palms (coconuts, palm oils), mangroves and a range of timbers. Maize is grown extensively by subsistence farmers - two crops per year - late maize and early maize.

The southern parts are tropical rainforests with tropical shrubs, flowering trees, vines, ferns and palms. The northern parts are savannah, with scattered broadleaf trees and mostly tall grasses. The flowering plants are more desert-like.
