if thet are tiles they have nibs that hook onto the batten if itsslates they are nailed best with zinc or copper nails into the battern

If you are in UK it is fairly simple. There are lugs on them and you fit them over battens. If it is a new roof start at the bottom and work up. Nail the ones at the edges particularly if it is exposed on that edge. I have done a few roofs and am moderately handy but you will know if its the type of work you should be doing. It is a big subject and that is why there are roofers out there

They have copper nails. If galvanized nails were used, the tiles will start slipping off the roof after a few decades.

you need to be specific ..do you mean tile hanging ..like on the side of a house or a gable end ..or do you mean fixing tiles to a roof ....try again
