I grow tomatos in 5 gallon buckets, I've always had very successful luck. Just your opinion which is better, 13-13-13 or cow manure, or would it be better to use both?

Hi-

with cow manure, you never know what you're going to get. With fertilizer, you know that you're always getting 13N, 13P, and 13K. the numbers are percentage of each nutrient per pound.

Manure can contain pathogens and weed seed as well.

My personal preference would be a good potting soil and fertilizer over the poop.

Cow manure, just make sure it isnt to fresh because it can burn the plant. What comes from the earth is always better to put back in the earth.

I do not like to use anymore fertilizer than necessary and have always had good success with manure tea, be it horse or cow. Happy growing!

Cow Manure is better. Make sure you mix it well with the soil. It will burn the plants. I used horse manure once and had tomato plants 7ft tall. Gigantic tomatos. They were a little bitter though. LOL!!!!!!

Depends on where you live, in some places in the desert or high desert it can burn when it starts to get hot and has a high salt build up. So its best to have it worked into the ground and have good rain or leach it out good before planting, a good compost but not a complete fertilizer. It can shot the plant up fast but its best to get a fertilizer that will feed the roots and get the plant off to a good strong start then it in turn gives the plant a bumper crop of flower for pollination.
