i am a first time home buyer in the U K and have looked at a lot of properties. from what i can see a semi-detached ex council house is the way to go. the lounge ,dining room, garden and even the rooms are so much more spacious. i know that there is a stigma that comes with the council houses but with property in the U K being what it is who could ask for anything more. i am looking for this kind of property in the Ipswich area if anyone knows of one between the 100000 to the 120000 pound mark it would be greatly appreciated. thanks and happy house hunting

Ex council houses are a great buy at the moment - good sized rooms etc. The council built them to last, so structure is normally sound. The stigma with ex council is going as families are buying them up for the extra space. Go for it! Check out www.rightmove.co.uk for your search.

Happy house hunting!!

I live in a council house and there is nothing wrong with it. I find with non-council houses (unless you have hundreds of thousands of pounds too spend) you either get a big house with a small garden or vice-versa. I live in a 3 bedroom council house with a fair size front garden and quite a large back garden what more could I want.

due to few personal probs had to go council and got a house 3 bed terrace it was what you call a buy back previous owners had bought but sold it back to council it has a fitted kitchen wooden floors through out ,and a beautifull cast iron fire with pine surround i had nothing to do except few touches i was delighted and it was far better than my last house for storage and size .
As long as you are happy go for it infact there is even more for my children to do than in my last area .

Shane you wanted Ipswich, I live in Sheffield and being an "end house" you tend to get a bit extra land too. It can be a good investment. Good luck in your search. I live in the last house on the street, so I only get one neighbour too, cool.
