It causes more wear and tear on your transmission than it does saving gas, so dont bother... Also, the guy who says to shut down at a light...he doesnt realize that it will take more gas to restart your car than it would to leave it running for 30 seconds...
Best way to save gas - properly inflate your tires and check them at every fillup. Also, if you slightly over inflate them (say, 2-04psi more than stock), you will have less rolling resistence, so your mileage will be better. HOWEVER, over inflating tires can cause them to wear out faster, and to not grip properly in wet weather - so be careful.

As long as the car is running, it will use gas no matter what gear it is in. Shifting into neutral would only save gas if it makes the engine run slower. In my Prius, the engine shuts itself off at stoplights and restarts immediately when the accelerator is pressed. That saves gas. However, I wouldn't recommend shutting off your engine, because when the light turns green, there you are strying to start it again, and the restart would take more gas (in most cars) than running it during the light.

No it does not save gas if you apply the brake. The brake will activate the neutral of the transmission and therefore the engine is at idle. Even if one does not do this it is so trivial the amount of extra gas used that most likely no one would be able to measure it without some very sophisticated equipment.

It would never be enough to notice. If you want to up your gas mileage, you would see more improvement by doing things like making sure your air cleaner is good, and that your spark plugs are good than you ever would shifting into neutral.
Shifting your car into neutral does not hurt your transmission either, that is what it is made for, shifting.
Turning your car off at stop lights will make your mileage worse too. Because everytime you have to re-start your car, you are using that extra burst of fuel to start it again. I learned that in auto mechanics.

No it wont help at all. If you have an automatic when you car stops it automatically pushes the clutch in and disengages the engine from the wheels until you give it gas again, it is the same effect as neutral but in a more convenient and practical way.
Hope this helps.

yea, tire pressure. but clean air filter, oil/filter change, and clean induction/emissions systems and physically components. seafoam/deepcreep in a vacuum line per DIY at the seafoam site. or review many on youtube. plugs are prolly good. best one can do. prolly got a few miles on her. at this age, 35 hwy would be very good. ------------ EDIT, ppl, this has coil/ignitor atop plug config and NO distributor. no changing of plug wires needed. unless there's a miss fire condition and one or more of those were found to be the issue.

No, you can't. You'd have to turn the engine off.
